Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a cap or a plug?
There are pipe caps and plugs, and then there are our patented Swagelok tube fitting caps and plugs. The name comes from function rather than appearance. If you have a piece of pipe sticking up, put a cap on it. Same with a piece of tubing. If you have a pipe port, you plug it. Same as with a tube fitting port. Caps cap tubing and plugs plug ports. Learn how to assemble caps and plugs by viewing the video below.

Why doesn’t pricing show for a part online?
Pricing isn’t shown because you might not be logged in, and it only shows for make-to-stock parts. Additionally, some special-order items may not have online pricing readily available.

Why does it say call for availability on the online shopping cart?
A possible fix for regionally available items is to say that they are typically available in 5 business days. Some special items will require a quote from our customer service team to determine current lead times.

Why is my lead time different now than when quoted?
We provide live lead times at the time of quotation. Due to this, the lead time may change when your order is placed depending on the time between when your quote was provided and when an order is placed.

Can you discount pricing?
We provide quantity-based discounting on many items. For additional information, please get in touch with your local customer service team. Email or call 866.901.0151.

Is Swagelok the same as push to connect?
No, push-to-connect fittings, as the name suggests, complete the connection by pushing the tubing into the connection point. They’re typically designed for lower-pressure poly tube-style connections. Swagelok fittings are designed to accommodate a much larger variety of applications at various levels of pressure. Swagelok mechanical grip fittings complete their connections through the swaging process.

Can I use Swagelok ferrules with another brand of fitting (and vice versa)?
No, Swagelok does not promote using Swagelok ferrules with any other fitting manufacturers. No current fitting component standards are written regarding the manufacture of any compression fitting designs. As a result, every fitting manufacturer can design and build fitting components to their own design standards. Due to this, Swagelok cannot guarantee that our fitting components will provide a safe, leak-free connection when utilized with another manufacturer. Below is video about the risks of intermixing or interchanging tube fittings.
